Radiation is OVER!!!!!
For the first time in what seems like forever I do not have to get up in the wee hours and drive into the city. I am not going to know what to do with myself!
I hope this gives some type of closure to my hubby. I'm extremely happy that this part of our journey is complete. George doesn't seem to feel the same way- in fact - he seems rather removed from it. I imagine this is something that must sink in, something he must mentally kick around for awhile.
The doctor has also ordered some medication for his anger and depression- thank goodness - so that may have something to do with it.
Now, hopefully, George can get on with the job of recovering and will have a more positive outlook for the future.
It's been such a long, hard, road but we're both still standing. Recuperation and recovery still stretch out before us, but for today, we're breathing a sigh of relief and being thankful that we've made it this far.

  1. Maybe in time, when there is some distance from the actal treatments, your husband can concentrate on the moment and how best to make the most of it. It's hard not to let the focus be on ones illness, instead of the daily life that is passing one by. I hope by spring he is feeling better and you both have reason to smile.

  2. It sounds like a good time to just stop and enjoy the moment. It's those little moments that can help us to regroup.

  6. As someone travelling a somewhat similar path (esophageal cancer in my case), my heart goes out to you. I certainly know how hard this has been on my wife.

My thoughts are with you both.

  7. Thank you Barry. This has been quite an experience for both of us. It's a scary, scary world to inhabit. My thoughts, prayers and support go out to you and your wife. I know it sounds trite, but, stay strong and try to stay positive. I'm learning that the things we think are the worst (and will never end) do really ease up. Know that you are not on this path alone and if you need help along the way don't be afraid to reach out.
